Ballon d’Or 2026: ‘He Performed Most’ – Steven Nzonzi Picks Player To Win Award
Former Sevilla midfielder Steven Nzonzi has backed Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe to win the 2026 Ballon d’Or, arguing that the French international was the most outstanding player last season.
Nzonzi believes the award should recognise the player who performed best over the course of the season, and he considers Mbappe the leading candidate.
Speaking to Mundo Deportivo, the former France international explained his position on the prestigious individual award.
“The Ballon d’Or should be for the best player or the one who has performed the most, and I think there has not been anyone like Kylian,” Nzonzi said.
He added: “I respect everyone’s opinion, but that is mine.”
Mbappe strengthened his case with an impressive performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he won the Golden Boot after finishing as the tournament’s top scorer.
