Manchester United’s new signing, Andrey Santos, has revealed his preferred position to manager Michael Carrick ahead of the new Premier League season.

The Brazilian midfielder also expressed his desire to follow in the footsteps of his compatriot Casemiro, who left Manchester United after his contract expired this summer.

Santos, 22, joined the Red Devils from Chelsea in a deal reportedly worth £48 million. His arrival is part of United’s midfield rebuild, with the club also signing Youri Tielemans following Casemiro’s departure.

Santos believes he can play a similar role to Casemiro and help strengthen United’s midfield.

“Casemiro for me, it’s like a legend, you know. So now he’s gone out. Now I’m here so I feel that I can do like Casemiro did in the last season and I’m here to do it,” Santos said, as reported by centredevils on X.

“My qualities, I like and prefer playing more deep like a number six. So I try help my teammates without the ball and with the ball I love breaking the lines.”

Casemiro enjoyed a successful career at Manchester United, making 160 appearances, scoring 26 goals and providing 14 assists. He has now joined MLS side Inter Miami, where he will reunite with Lionel Messi.

Santos will be hoping to establish himself at Old Trafford after struggling for regular playing time at Chelsea. The midfielder made 47 appearances for the Blues before completing his move to Manchester United.
