Former France midfielder Emmanuel Petit believes Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane does not deserve to win the 2026 Ballon d’Or.

According to Petit, Kane’s chances of winning the prestigious award dropped after the FIFA World Cup because he failed to deliver in the biggest matches.

Speaking to Sport1, Petit said:

“Following this World Cup, Harry Kane’s chances for the Ballon d’Or have diminished.

“If you base it purely on the Bundesliga, he would certainly be a candidate.

“But in the Champions League and with the national team, whenever things got really tight, he mostly disappeared.”

Despite Petit’s criticism, Kane enjoyed another impressive season for Bayern Munich. The England captain finished as the Bundesliga’s top scorer for the third consecutive season with 36 league goals. He also scored 10 goals in the DFB-Pokal and added 14 goals in 13 UEFA Champions League matches.
