2026 Ballon d’Or: Messi Could Snub Event As Kane, Yamal Emerge Favourites
Argentina football legend Lionel Messi may not attend the 2026 Ballon d’Or ceremony scheduled for next Monday in London, United Kingdom.
According to Sport, the Inter Miami forward has yet to decide whether he will travel to London for this year’s prestigious awards ceremony.
On Thursday, the 39-year-old received the 2026 Princess of Asturias Award for Sports during a ceremony in Oviedo, Spain.
Messi could instead return to the United States, where he plays his club football with Major League Soccer side Inter Miami.
The Argentine remains the most decorated player in Ballon d’Or history, having won the award a record eight times during his career.
However, he is not expected to secure a ninth title this year, with England captain Harry Kane and Barcelona youngster Lamine Yamal emerging as leading contenders.
