2026 Ballon d’Or: Organizers List Four Players Who Could Win Two Awards
France Football, the organisers of the Ballon d’Or, have confirmed that a player can win more than one award at the same ceremony.
The clarification was made in a statement on Wednesday after four players were nominated in two different categories ahead of the 2026 Ballon d’Or ceremony.
“The answer is yes: a player can, in fact, win more than one award at the same ceremony. The voting and the nominees for each category are entirely separate,” the organisers said.
France Football also noted that although no player has previously won multiple awards at the same Ballon d’Or ceremony, there is no rule preventing it from happening.
“There is no rule preventing a player from winning more than one trophy,” the organisers added.
Among the players nominated in two categories is Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal, who is in contention for the Men’s Ballon d’Or and the Young Talent of the Year award. His Barcelona teammate Pau Cubarsí is also nominated in both categories.
The women’s categories also feature two players with multiple nominations. Barcelona goalkeeper Cata Coll is nominated for the Women’s Ballon d’Or and Goalkeeper of the Year, while Lorena is also competing for both awards.
