Independence Day Amid The Roar Of The Crowd: 1xCup 2026 Is In Full Swing

Nigeria will celebrate Independence Day on October 1, with celebrations expected across the country as people mark the occasion with music, concerts, family gatherings and other activities. Football fans in Lagos will also have plenty to watch as the 1xCup 2026 tournament continues.

The 1xCup has entered an important stage, with only 24 teams remaining from the 100 sides that started the competition. The remaining teams are battling for progress from the group stage, with recent matches producing several exciting results and memorable moments.

Dynamic FC defeated AMA Smile FC 3-2 after taking a 3-0 lead by the 47th minute. Although Obasi Nnamdi Daniel and Adeleye Emmanuel Odunayo scored in the 63rd and 68th minutes to reduce the deficit, Dynamic FC held on for the victory.

Ajuwa FA and Tonic FC played out a 2-2 draw in another entertaining encounter. Emeka Sylvester opened the scoring for Ajuwa before Tonic FC responded with two goals, but Ajuwa eventually rescued a point through Sylvester’s contribution, with Otto Paul scoring the equaliser.

36 Lion FC has also impressed during the competition, recording a 4-1 victory over Ighalo FA before suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat to Maryland United FC. Collins Edwin SC also recorded a convincing 3-0 win over ECAS FA, with Liadi Shafihi Adisa scoring twice before Omosebi Damilare completed the victory.

After two weeks of the group stage, 50 goals have been scored in 18 matches, averaging almost three goals per game. Group A remains particularly tight, with Vido leading on four points, followed by Emiloju FC on three, JP Young Stars on two and BYT Academical FC on one.

The Group A teams will continue their battle on Independence Day, with Vido facing BYT while Emiloju FC takes on JP Young Stars. Newhope Naija FC and Crusaders FC will also meet in Group B, while the group stage is scheduled to end on October 8. The 1xCup 2026 final will take place on October 31 at 1 p.m. at Inspire Sports Arena, Cappa, Oshodi.
