Goals, Drama And Big Performances: What Defined The Start Of The 1xCup 2026 Group Stage?

The opening round of the 1xCup 2026 group stage delivered an exciting start, with nine matches played between September 15 and 17 at Inspire Sports Arena. The fixtures produced 22 goals as teams battled for important points and a place in the playoffs.

Several players and teams stood out during Matchday 1, including Joel Emanuel, who scored twice for Vido 99 FC, and Emeka Sylvester, who netted a hat-trick for Ajuwa FC. BYT Academical FC also impressed by fighting back for a draw, while Newhope Maija FC and Kiraa FA continued their strong defensive records.

Vido 99 FC defeated Emiloju FC 3-1, with Joel Emanuel scoring twice and Victor Adebayo adding another goal. Faruq Abubakar scored from the penalty spot for Emiloju FC, but Vido 99 FC secured all three points.

JP Young Stars FC and BYT Academical FC played out a 1-1 draw, while Newhope Maija FC and Kiraa FA finished goalless. Ecas FA also lost 1-0 to AUX FC after Aron Ogodogbo scored from an assist by substitute Arong Theophilus.

Ajuwa FC recorded one of the biggest wins of the round, defeating Joy Cometh FC 4-0. After Joy Cometh FC were reduced to 10 men, Emeka Sylvester took advantage of the situation and completed a hat-trick to move into second place in the tournament’s goalscoring rankings.

Tonic FC and Mega 22 FC drew 1-1, while 36 Lion FC defeated Ighalo FC 4-1. Maryland United FC also secured a 2-1 win over Crystal FC, despite the visitors gaining a numerical advantage from the 70th minute.

Inspire SA suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Young Strikers FC in the final match, decided by a clinical finish. With Matchday 1 complete, the group stage has already produced strong performances, dramatic results and emerging stars, with Matchday 2 set to continue the battle for qualification.
