Russia vs Nigeria: Nigerians React As Super Eagles Play 3-3 Draw
Nigerians on social media have reacted to the Super Eagles’ 3-3 international friendly draw against Russia on Tuesday.
The Super Eagles came from 3-1 down to secure a draw against the hosts at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium in Nizhny Novgorod.
Kelechi Iheanacho, Peter Edokpolor and Akor Adams scored for Nigeria, while Lechi Sadulaev, Matvey Kislyak and Aleksei Miranchuk found the net for Russia.
The result delighted some Nigerian supporters, particularly after the Super Eagles suffered a shocking 3-0 defeat to Guinea-Bissau in their recent 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
One supporter, @NaijaNowFb, praised the team’s fighting spirit, saying: “Strong? We call it SUPER EAGLES from 3-1 down to 3-3! These young boys showed real Naija spirit! Proud!”
However, some fans also criticised coach Eric Chelle’s tactics. @Damianiyke1 said: “Until someone in that NFF tells Chelle that this 442 diamond isn’t working, you all will continue to struggle….he’s too set in his ways and might get him d sack.”
Other supporters called for more opportunities for the young players, with @olaoluakorede saying: “Pls play the hungry boys always….. Use our locals & develop them. God bless the Eagles.” @isaac_toyin also argued that “These guys are better than those that played against Guinea-Bissau.”
