UCL: Why Man City Lost 4-2 To PSG – Maresca

Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca has admitted that conceding two quick goals against Paris Saint-Germain affected his players’ morale during their 4-2 defeat in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday night.

PSG dominated the first half, going into the break with a three-goal advantage. Desire Doue, Ousmane Dembele and Vitinha scored to put the French champions in a commanding position.

Erling Haaland pulled one goal back for City with a flicked header, but Maghnes Akliouche restored PSG’s three-goal cushion, leaving the Premier League side with a difficult task.

Haaland later completed his brace, but his efforts were not enough to prevent City from suffering their first defeat in all competitions this season.

“We started well but conceded the two quick goals and that created bad feelings,” Maresca said after the match, explaining how the early setbacks affected his team.

The City boss also felt his players improved after the break, adding: “In the second half we were much better and deserved something more.” He admitted that the match became increasingly difficult after PSG scored twice in quick succession.

Maresca explained that he made tactical adjustments at half-time to improve City’s pressing and possession. “We adjusted something at half-time and didn’t lose the balance. We adjusted the way we pressed and what we did on the ball,” he said, despite the defeat.
