Billionaires Fund Nigerian Artists – Sarkodie
Popular Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie has said Nigerian artists receive significant financial support from billionaires and business executives, unlike their Ghanaian counterparts, who often have to fund their music careers independently.
The rapper made the remarks during a recent episode of the When We Sit podcast, where he discussed the differences between the Nigerian and Ghanaian music industries.

According to Sarkodie, Nigerian business executives are more willing to take financial risks by investing in homegrown talent, giving Nigerian artists an advantage in the African music industry.
He explained that Ghanaian artists often struggle to secure financial backing, even when they present business plans to potential investors.
“What Ghanaian artists do is organic. I give a business plan, even with that it is hard to get some people to come in. But in Nigeria, I think they take a lot of risk, most of the rich people with money, take a lot of risk to put their people on. If I breakdown what it takes to do the O2 Arena, you will freak out, but then we still have to do it,” he said.
Sarkodie also recalled meeting Nigerian billionaire Tony Elumelu, saying he was surprised by the amount of money Elumelu disclosed he was investing in a Nigerian artist whom the rapper believes represents the future of Afrobeats.
The Ghanaian musician urged wealthy individuals and business executives in Ghana to follow the example of their Nigerian counterparts by providing financial support to local artists.
He suggested that greater investment from Ghanaian business leaders could help artists in the country expand their careers and compete more effectively on the international stage.
