UCL: Why We Lost 4-2 To PSG – Barcelona Manager Hansi Flick
Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has explained the reasons behind his team’s 4-2 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday, pointing to physical exhaustion, insufficient preparation and defensive mistakes.
The German tactician admitted that his players were not at their best physically after a demanding schedule over the previous 14 days, which placed considerable pressure on the squad ahead of the European encounter.
Flick also revealed that travel complications following severe weather conditions forced Barcelona to spend an additional night in Seville on Saturday, affecting the team’s recovery and preparation for the match.
Although he did not use fatigue as the main excuse for the defeat, the manager acknowledged that a lack of energy contributed to mistakes in possession and defensive organization, particularly during the closing stages of the game.
“We have committed too many mistakes in this game, especially in possession and with easy losses of the ball,” Flick said, admitting that Barcelona gave PSG too many opportunities through avoidable errors.
He added that the team must learn from the setback, stressing that winning the Champions League requires patience and improvement throughout the season. “We have to learn from this match. You don’t win titles in October. The Champions League is won in June,” he stated.

Flick also praised PSG’s quality on the counterattack but said Barcelona struggled to maintain their defensive intensity in the final 15 minutes. “They have a lot of quality in transition. We tried to defend against them, and we did it well, but in those last 15 minutes we weren’t fresh,” he said. He concluded: “We didn’t have the best preparation for this game. We have to analyse it and do things better.”
