In a statement issued on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, the command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the operation followed actionable intelligence received on October 19 about a hideout where the victims were allegedly being held.
According to Babaseyi, preliminary investigations revealed that the victims were allegedly deceived by a fellow Ghanaian national who promised to facilitate their travel abroad.
Each victim reportedly paid GH₵40,000 before being brought to Nigeria, where they were allegedly held against their will.
The police spokesperson said the rescued victims were receiving care and support, while detectives had intensified efforts to identify and apprehend other members of the suspected criminal network.

Babaseyi said the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the Anti-Kidnapping Unit for its prompt response and professionalism during the rescue operation.
Ojajuni reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and combating transnational crime, stressing that Ogun State would not become a safe haven for criminals who exploit unsuspecting people seeking opportunities abroad.
He also assured the public that the police would continue their efforts until those responsible were brought to justice.
The Ogun State Police Command urged members of the public to verify overseas travel arrangements and visa processing services before making payments. It also encouraged residents to report suspicious activities to the relevant authorities.
