Barbadian singer Rihanna has blamed Americans who did not vote in the 2024 presidential election for Donald Trump’s victory and the economic hardship associated with his administration.

The singer made the comment while reacting to a viral Instagram clip of an interview featuring former MSNBC host Joy Reid and journalist Charles M. Blow.

During the conversation, Reid argued that Americans deserved the financial controversies surrounding Trump’s administration because they voted for him to return to office.

Reacting to the clip, Rihanna disagreed with placing the blame solely on those who voted for Trump, arguing that people who abstained from voting also contributed to the outcome.

“Believe it or not, those who didn’t vote at all also did this!” the singer stated.

Trump won the 2024 presidential election against Democratic nominee Kamala Harris, securing a second term after losing his 2020 re-election bid to Joe Biden.

Despite residing in the United States, Rihanna is not an American citizen and is therefore ineligible to vote in US presidential elections.
