PLANNED PROTEST FOR 20TH OCTOBER IN ABUJA: ENOUGH OF THE RASCALITY AND IMPUNITY OF OMOYELE SOWORE

Published

on

The Arewa Voters Assembly (AVA) is a platform of Democrats, for the promotion and deepening of the roots and tentacles of the nation’s ongoing democracy and representative government.

Actively present in the nineteen states of the North and the Federal Capital Territory of Abuja, we are however also on ground in the other states of the country.

Today, we want to speak on the emerging real threats, by various forces, to the peace, stability and unity of our motherland, Nigeria.

Specially however, we want to pertinently and vehemently speak in unequivocal language to all enemies of the country who have overtly and surreptitiously been working to reverse the appreciable mileage that Nigerians have strenuously struggled to cover in entrenching democracy and representative governance in the country, especially the gains so far achieved by the Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration.

In this regard, we are pointedly and clearly speaking to OMOYELE SOWORE with the message: ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! In tune with the mood of most rational and patriotic Nigerians, we are hereby warning Sowore that we can no longer put up with his serial acts of rascality that threaten the very foundation of the corporate existence of the country and his unguarded utterances and statements against state institutions and statesmen, very unbecoming of a child brought up from a good home with parents.

After a prolonged and painstaking observation and analysis, we have cause to believe that:

  1. Omoyele Sowore is an unpatriotic quisling who has been masquerading in the guise of a “human rights and democracy activist.” This posturing is a facade behind which he has been carrying out his treacherous and treasonable offences and actions against the Nigerian state and institutions for a few years now, masquerading under the so-called garb to blackmail and commit atrocious activities that are very inhuman.
  2. Sowore is a hired destabilization agent in the service of foreign forces and interests that have been scheming over the years to disintegrate Nigeria by igniting the fire of ethnic, regional and religious conflagration and inclinations. They have found an ally in Sowore, who does not have the fear of God in him and is never patriotic to the cause and aspirations of the Nigerian state, and who will do anything to bring the country to its knees in order to satisfy his selfish, delusional behavior and character traits of a failed childhood not brought up from a good parentage and family life.
  3. Since the inception of the Fourth Republic in 1999, it has long become obvious to us in the Arewa Voters Assembly, and to discerning Nigerians and certainly to every patriotic observer, that several shadowy forces have been at work in efforts to scuttle the trajectory of our hard-won democracy, to which Sowore has lent his life and service as a traitor and fifth columnist of the first order and an enemy of the state.
Besides the misguided religious perverts, the ethnic and regional irredentists as well as the armed bandits who have been rampaging and causing mayhem across the nation, certain individuals have also been among the unconscionable elements working for external powers and sponsors with the objective of destabilising Nigeria. It is crystal clear that the boisterous and cantankerous Omoyele Sowore is one of such traitors to the country’s course in achieving our collective aspirations that we can all be proud of.
  4. By his actions and utterances ever since he forayed into the publishing of his online platform and the political arena, Sowore has been consistently provocative, vulgar, uncouth and lawless. He has a habit of instigating violence, chaos, anarchy and conflicts between communities, parties, individuals and regions by always whipping up divisive sentiments along the nation’s fault lines.
His latest antics, woven around the trial and detention of Nnamdi Kanu, vividly illustrate the character of Sowore as an opportunistic interloper and renegade spent force who goes on scavenging expeditions for the slightest chance and opportunity, however senseless, of plying his vocation of a rabble-rouser and an enemy of the Nigerian nationhood.
  5. It is obvious to us in the Arewa Voters Assembly (AVA) that Sowore’s recent penchant for hauling disparaging verbal attacks, dissolute, crude and odious invectives at the administration and person of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is a deliberate strategy aimed at arousing the disaffection of the citizens towards their democratically elected political leadership and to cast aspersions on our hard-fought democracy that is thriving in leaps and bounds to the detriment of the undertaker’s principals and sponsors, who are daily licking their wounds because Nigeria is indeed moving towards the right direction under the present dispensation.

OUR DEMANDS:

On the basis of the foregoing, the Arewa Voters Assembly (AVA) is making the following demands and pronouncements:

  1. We have had enough of the narcissistic and egocentric vituperations of Omoyele Sowore, who is nothing but a fake, misguided and crooked personality on a rascally mission of narrow self-aggrandizement and selfish delusional ambition.
  2. We are calling on the youths of the country, particularly those of the Southeast, to be wary of the antics and deceptions of Sowore and his cohorts. They should take a closer and critical look at the self-styled “Comrade” who claims to be a ‘revolutionary’ and is purportedly fighting for the masses, and look beyond his charade that he is indeed a sheep in a wolf’s garb; a stooge used by the enemies of democracy to thwart the gains so far garnered since President Bola Ahmed Tinubu took the mantle of leadership and is steering the ship of State to change the trajectory of Africa’s most populous black nation to prominence in global reckoning.
It should be noted that while he is calling out our youngsters to come out to the streets on protests, thereby exposing them to the risks of arrest, detentions or worse, his own children are attending Dwight Englewood, one of the most exclusive schools in the USA, and his wife and other family members are enjoying exclusive, cozy lifestyles of opulence and security in New Jersey, USA, which is not commensurate with his lifestyle and earnings in the country. This leaves a sour taste in the mouth that he is really a wolf, a con man and a blackmailer. What a cold-blooded, mindless, malicious, barefaced liar; an unscrupulous, manipulating hypocrite!
  3. We are calling on the nation’s security agencies—the police, the DSS, NIA and others—to, as a matter of urgent national security exigency, go for the scum and threat to the nation in the person of Omoyele Sowore. He should be particularly questioned on his recent claims that “the results of the 2027 elections have already been written.”

On our part, the Arewa Voters Assembly is, for emphasis, vehemently and unequivocally reiterating its position that the Sowore’s planned so-called “Free Nnamdi Kanu” protest slated for the 20th of October, 2025, in Abuja, WILL NOT HOLD! We are very emphatic because that will be his last!

The Assembly has mobilised 60,000 of its members from the states to converge on the FCT in the days leading to the D-Day as a counterforce. We will chase and hunt for any miscreants seen on that day on the streets of Abuja in the name of protest. It is our fervent prayer that Sowore will not test our resolve.

On the intelligence we got that architects of the so-called peaceful protest plan to disrupt business activities at the Wuse market, we have promptly called on our members at the market to link up with other traders to jointly come out to resist the anarchists.

On a final note, the Arewa Voters Assembly (AVA) wishes to make it very clear that its position on Sowore’s planned protest should not be misconstrued to mean that we are against the person of Nnamdi Kanu. As democrats, our position is based on our ardent belief in the principles of the rule of law. Neither VIOLENCE, BLACKMAIL NOR GRANDSTANDING should prevail in the resolution of conflicts and dialogue.

While we are also not averse to the suggestion from certain quarters for “a political solution” to the situation, we insist however that justice, due process, equity and fair play should take precedence over sentiments. In this context, we want Nigerians to discard the pedestrian ranting of bigots, hypocrites, agent provocateurs and mischief makers who are whipping up regional, ethnic and religious emotions and sentiments with heinous ulterior and ignoble selfish motives to push their narrative against the Nigerian state.

We insist that the freedom or otherwise of Nnamdi Kanu should follow due judicial process. Let him go through his trial that is now ongoing in the court of law and face the outcome at the end of the day.

As much as we are not against justice for Kanu, we are also not unmindful of his violent activities, those of his lieutenants and foot soldiers that resulted in multitudes of deaths, various forms of physical disabilities and massive economic ruination in the Southeast. We believe that the victims of these wanton atrocities also deserve retribution and justice. We should not allow Nigeria to be turned into a banana republic where anarchy and lawlessness are the order of the day.

Long live one United, Peaceful Nigeria, Long live democracy

Comrade Ismail Ibrahim Bakori, (Convener)

Official waste of government resources and national wealth, group slams NNPCL GMD over MOU with Chinese firm to revive dead refineries

Published

on

…demands accountability into past investment of $3.5b for PHC, Warri and Kaduna refineries

A coalition of oil sector reform advocates has criticised the latest agreement by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited with Chinese firms to revive Nigeria’s refineries, describing the move as a wasteful recycling of failed strategies and a troubling signal of weak accountability in the management of public resources.

The group, the Centre for Energy Sector Transparency (CEST), made its position known in a statement issued on Wednesday and signed by its executive director, Dr Oghenetega Edafe, following the announcement of a new memorandum of understanding between NNPC Ltd and two Chinese companies for a proposed technical equity partnership.

The agreement is aimed at completing rehabilitation work and restarting operations at the Port Harcourt and Warri refineries, assets that have remained largely dormant despite multiple rounds of government-funded turnaround maintenance.

Edafe said the development raises serious questions about fiscal discipline, policy coherence, and the absence of accountability for previous investments running into billions of dollars.

“What Nigerians are witnessing is a troubling pattern of policy repetition without reflection. The same refineries that have gulped enormous public funds over the years are once again at the centre of a fresh round of agreements, yet there has been no transparent accounting of what has already been spent or why those investments failed to deliver results,” he said.

The group specifically referenced earlier government approvals of over $1 billion for refinery rehabilitation projects, warning that proceeding with new partnerships without a public audit of past expenditures undermines trust in the system.

“It is unacceptable that after committing over one billion dollars to refinery rehabilitation, the nation is being asked to embrace yet another agreement without a clear and verifiable audit of previous interventions. This is not just about policy failure; it is about the potential erosion of public trust in how national wealth is managed,” Edafe said.

He argued that while the introduction of a technical equity model may appear innovative, it does not absolve the government and NNPC Ltd of responsibility for past inefficiencies and possible mismanagement.

“The idea of bringing in technical partners with equity stakes is not inherently flawed. However, it becomes deeply problematic when it is introduced as a substitute for accountability. Before we speak of new partnerships, Nigerians deserve a full disclosure of how past funds were utilised, who was responsible for project delivery, and why the expected outcomes were not achieved,” he said.

The group also warned that without institutional reforms, the proposed collaboration risks becoming another cycle of investment without sustainable results.

“What is being presented as a strategic shift may, in reality, become another expensive experiment if the underlying governance issues are not addressed. Technical expertise alone cannot fix a system that lacks transparency, oversight, and consequences for failure,” Edafe said.

The Centre called on the National Assembly and relevant anti-corruption agencies to initiate a comprehensive probe of refinery rehabilitation projects over the past decade, including contract awards, disbursements, and project execution timelines.

“This moment demands more than optimism; it demands scrutiny. We call on oversight institutions like the National Assembly, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and others to undertake a forensic examination of all funds committed to refinery rehabilitation, including the recent billion-dollar interventions. Nigerians must know what has been done with their resources and why the country is still dependent on fuel imports despite repeated promises of self-sufficiency,” he said.

The Centre added that restoring confidence in Nigeria’s oil sector would require not just new agreements, but a demonstrable commitment to transparency, accountability, and institutional integrity.

Court Adjourns El-Rufai’s Bail Application To June

Published

on

Justice Darius Khobo of the Kaduna State High Court has adjourned the bail hearing of former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai to the first week of June, 2026.

El-Rufai is being arraigned on multiple charges bordering on alleged financial crime and abuse of office by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

“Similarly, another charge, number KDH/KAD/ICPC/01/26, against Malam Nasir El-Rufa’i and one Amadu Sule (LEDA) has also been filed before a Kaduna State High Court in the Kaduna Judicial Division,” the ICPC said last month.

“The charges in the State High Court case range from abuse of office, fraud, and intent to commit fraud to conferring undue advantage, among others. Both charges were filed by the ICPC on the 18th of March, 2026.”

Speaking after the court session, counsel to the former governor, Ukpon Akpan, kicked against the lingering adjournment of the bail hearing by one presiding judge as politically motivated.

The high-profile case has drawn significant public attention, with heightened security presence observed around the court premises.

The former governor had arrived at the court at about 9 am in a convoy accompanied by ICPC officials and operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS).

During the proceedings, supporters of the former governor gathered outside the courtroom, while security agencies maintained order and restricted movement within the vicinity.

Inside the courtroom, journalists, as usual, were not allowed, as proceedings are expected to focus on arguments presented by both the defence and prosecution regarding the bail request.

At the last sitting, the defence team had maintained that their client poses no flight risk and is willing to comply with all conditions set by the court.

Meanwhile, the prosecution has urged the court to carefully consider the gravity of the charges.

The 66-year-old former governor of Kaduna has been in ICPC custody since February 19 following his release by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

El-Rufai, a former minister of the FCT, was, however, released on March 27 based on compassionate grounds following his mother’s death.

Gunmen Kidnap 15 Boat Passengers In Cross River

Published

Gunmen have abducted 15 boat passengers in Cross River. They were whisked away during a pirate attack on a ferry along the Calabar-Oron waterways.

The spokesman of Police Zone 6 Command, Jefferson Osupe, said the victims were abducted on April 16, 2026. The kidnapped persons were aboard a boat going from Calabar, the Cross River capital, to Oron in Akwa Ibom State.

Following the incident, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 6 Command, Calabar, Auwal Mohammed, ordered an “immediate and sustained joint security operation”.

The AIG has mandated the Commissioners of Police in Cross River State, Rashid Afegbua, and Akwa Ibom State, Baba Azare, “to immediately activate a robust, intelligence-driven, and coordinated interstate security framework aimed at the swift rescue of the victims and the apprehension of all perpetrators.”

“The directive emphasises seamless collaboration between both state commands, in synergy with the Nigerian Navy and other relevant security agencies, to dominate the waterways, dismantle criminal networks, and restore confidence in maritime safety across the zone,” the statement read in part.

Mohammed charged them to set aside all jurisdictional limitations and operational boundaries and to deploy all available tactical and intelligence assets to achieve this mission.

He said the rescue of the abductees remains an operational priority and warned that the command will pursue the perpetrators relentlessly until justice is served.

While condemning the attack, Mohammed reassured residents and maritime operators in both states that the Nigeria Police Force under Zone 6 remains resolute, proactive, and fully committed to safeguarding lives and property.

He urged the public to remain calm and law-abiding and report any suspicious activities, particularly along coastal and riverine communities.

“Furthermore, the Zone 6 Headquarters reiterated its commitment to transparency and timely communication as operations progress, in order to sustain public trust and mitigate undue tension,” he said.

“The Zone assures that there will be no safe haven for criminals within Zone 6.”
