Stop Belittling My Work – Funke Akindele Reacts To Criticism Over Dancing To Promote Movies
Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has responded to critics who mock her for dancing on social media to promote her movies, saying the videos are part of a well-planned marketing strategy and not just for entertainment.
Speaking in an interview with BellaNaija, Akindele explained that the idea began while promoting her movie Battle on Buka Street, when she did not have enough money to fund a major publicity campaign.
According to her, she decided to create promotional dance videos from her sitting room using a simple backdrop, a camera, and the support of her brother and cinematographer.
The actress said many people misunderstood the purpose of the videos, adding that they were created out of necessity and hard work rather than for fun.
She said, “I did Battle on Buka Street and I didn’t have the budget for PR and marketing. So I just did a backdrop in my sitting room in my house and I put the camera there. Stop belittling my work. It’s not dancing. It’s hard work.
“If you don’t feel like you want to jump on it to promote your movie, you’re welcome. But you don’t have to dance. Create your own ideas. Come up with something different.
“I want to build the next generation of female filmmakers. I want them to be audacious. I want them to be hardworking. I want people to look back as, oh, I remember Funke Akindele. She gave us the opportunity to be seen and heard.
“She taught us how to be audacious, to be firm. I was watching the next episode of Ayetoro Town, and I saw a lot of young actors. I’m actually emotional right now. I saw a lot of young talent. And, you know, I saw some of them tired as they’re acting. You know, I saw some discoloration on their skin. And I said, ah, Funke, there was a time you were like this.
“I’m not really making money from it. But I just vowed. I said, God, keep giving me the grace to pull people up. They need to be seen. They need to be heard.”

“Thank You, Jesus; It Is Done” – Peggy Ovire Celebrates As She Finalises Divorce From Ex-Husband, Frederick Leonard
Nollywood actress Peggy Ovire has sparked reactions online after suggesting that her divorce from estranged husband, Frederick Leonard, has finally been concluded.
The actress shared a message on her Instagram Story expressing gratitude to God, leading many fans to believe that the legal process had officially come to an end.
She wrote, “Thank you, Jesus. It is done.”
Peggy also reposted a congratulatory message from her colleague, Angela Eguavoen, which read, “My queen is free!! Hallelujah.”
The update comes months after Peggy publicly accused Frederick Leonard of having an affair with a married woman who has children.
She also alleged that the actor repeatedly delayed the divorce proceedings by failing to appear in court after being served legal papers.
At the time, Peggy shared a video showing Frederick and his alleged lover together at a public event and urged him not to miss another customary court hearing.
Earlier this year, Frederick appeared to hint at a fresh chapter in his life while celebrating his birthday, saying he had found a happier version of himself.
Around the same period, Peggy shared a cryptic post stating that she had chosen herself, a message many fans believed was directed at the actor.
Peggy Ovire and Frederick Leonard got married in a star-studded traditional wedding ceremony in Asaba, Delta State, on November 19, 2022.
As of the time of this report, neither Peggy Ovire nor Frederick Leonard has released any further details about the divorce beyond their social media posts.

Avoid Doing Business With People Who Rank Ronaldo Above Messi – Says Bovi
Nigerian comedian and actor Bovi has sparked fresh debate among football fans after sharing his opinion on the long-running rivalry between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
In a video posted on his Instagram page, Bovi jokingly advised people to be careful when doing business with anyone who insists that Ronaldo is a better footballer than Messi.
According to him, a person’s opinion in the Messi-Ronaldo debate can reveal how they think and interpret facts, especially in situations involving money and trust.
He said, “If you want to get into business with someone you don’t know so well and you’re going to invest your money together, ask the person who his favourite footballer is.
“If he says Ronaldo, you might still want to do business with him. If he says Ronaldo is his GOAT, that’s perfectly okay. But ask him between Ronaldo and Messi who is a better footballer. If he says matter-of-factly that Ronaldo is a better footballer than Messi, pick up your shoes and run.”
Bovi explained that there is nothing wrong with choosing Ronaldo as a favourite player or even calling him the Greatest of All Time (GOAT).
However, he argued that anyone who confidently claims Ronaldo is a better footballer than Messi may have a tendency to ignore obvious facts and shape reality to fit personal beliefs.
His comments have since sparked mixed reactions on social media, with fans of both football stars once again debating who is the better player.
