Mitte gained international recognition for his portrayal of Walter White Jr., the son of Walter White, played by Bryan Cranston, in Breaking Bad.

The actor appeared in 56 episodes of the Emmy-winning series between 2008 and 2013. The show followed Walter White, a terminally ill high school chemistry teacher who built a methamphetamine empire with his former student, Jesse Pinkman, played by Aaron Paul.

Mitte won a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series in 2014 for his work on the show’s final season.

Beyond acting, Mitte was an advocate for people with disabilities. Diagnosed with cerebral palsy at the age of three, he used his platform to promote disability awareness and inclusion in the entertainment industry.

In 2014, he received the SAG-AFTRA Howard Russell Award, named in honour of the first actor with a disability to win an Oscar.

He also served as an ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children’s and appeared in productions including The Recall and The Guardians of Justice (Will Save You!).

Mitte was the president of The Mitte Foundation, his family’s Austin-based charity, which supports marginalised communities in South Texas. He lived in Brownsville, Texas.

His representative described him as a “beloved actor, philanthropist, and passionate disability rights advocate.”

Mitte’s death comes about a year after he became engaged to his girlfriend, Kennedy Suarez, on her 30th birthday. He proposed at the 56th annual Dia del Sol benefit in Carlsbad, California, in 2025. The fundraising event supported United Cerebral Palsy of San Diego.
