Crane Kills Three In Ogun Road Accident

Three people have died, while three others were injured in a road accident along the Ijebu Ode-Benin Expressway in Ogun State.

The crash happened at about 5 a.m. on Wednesday and involved a crane without a registration number and a Benz truck with registration number LG 59 BLF.

According to reports, the crane driver was allegedly driving against traffic at high speed when the vehicle collided head-on with the oncoming truck, which was travelling in its proper lane.

The Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the incident.

He said six people were involved in the accident. Three of them died, while the remaining three sustained injuries.

The injured victims were taken to Babcock University Hospital in Ilisan Remo for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital morgue in Sagamu.

Akinbiyi said:

“According to an eyewitness account, the crane driver drove against traffic, coupled with excessive speed. This led to a head-on collision with the Benz truck travelling in its rightful lane.

“There were six occupants in the two vehicles, three males and three females. Three males were injured, while two males and one female died in the accident.”

He added that traffic was diverted from Delabo Junction to the second lane to ease congestion, while TRACE operatives monitored the situation.
