Herder, cattle killed in Rivers road accident
A yet-to-be-identified herder and 11 cattle were killed when a Mercedes-Benz car crashed into a herd crossing the East-West Road at Evekwu in Rumuodogu, Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Residents of the area told newsmen that the cattle were crossing the road when the speeding vehicle rammed into the herd, killing the herder and the cattle.
They said the occupants of the vehicle, who were reportedly travelling in a convoy, abandoned the damaged car, joined another vehicle in the convoy and fled the scene.
Police operatives from the Emohua Division evacuated the body of the deceased to the mortuary, while an injured herder was taken to hospital for treatment.

Several dead cattle were seen in the nearby bush, while some men were also seen sitting beside one of the cattle.
The spokesperson of the Rivers State Police Command, ASP Agabe Blessing Kaborlo, who confirmed the incident, said investigation was ongoing.
Kaborlo said, “Yes, I can confirm the incident. One of them died. The other was injured and was rushed to the hospital. He is now stable.
“However, before our men got to the scene, the owner of the Mercedes-Benz had ran away.
“The corpse of the victim was taken away by his people, but the injured cattle rearer is responding to treatment in the hospital. Investigation is ongoing.” the police spokesperson said.
