NPFL Pre-Season Invitational: Plateau United, Mighty Jets Begin With Victories

Plateau United and Mighty Jets started their campaigns at the 2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Invitational Pre-Season Tournament with victories.

In the first match of the day, Plateau United defeated last season’s NPFL runners-up, Rivers United, 1-0.

Jubril Ibrahim scored the only goal of the match one minute before the 30-minute mark to give Plateau United an important victory.

In the second game, Mighty Jets also secured a narrow 1-0 win over El-Kanemi Warriors.

Usman Meyanga scored the decisive goal in the 56th minute after taking advantage of an error from the El-Kanemi Warriors goalkeeper.

The tournament will continue on Thursday, with Katsina United facing El-Kanemi Warriors in the first match of the day.

In the second fixture, reigning NPFL champions Rangers will take on Rivers United.

The Super Six Invitational Tournament was organised to help Nigerian clubs representing the country in CAF inter-club competitions prepare properly for their upcoming preliminary-round matches.
