CAF Champions League: Rangers Through To Next Round After Shootout Win Over Sobemap

Rangers have qualified for the second preliminary round of the CAF Champions League after defeating Beninese club Sobemap FC 5-4 on penalties.

The Nigerian champions were held to a 1-1 draw in the second leg of their first preliminary-round tie at Stade de Kegue in Lome on Friday.

The result left both teams level at 2-2 on aggregate after two closely contested matches.

Rangers took the lead in the 22nd minute after Sobemap conceded an own goal.

The hosts fought back and equalised with 25 minutes remaining, forcing the game to go straight into a penalty shootout.

Rangers held their nerve from the spot, winning 5-4 to secure their place in the next round.

Fidelis Ilechukwu’s side will now face Algerian club MC Algers in the second preliminary round as they continue their quest for a place in the Champions League group stage.
