AFCON 2027Q: Iwobi To Captain Super Eagles Against Guinea-Bissau

Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi will captain the Super Eagles in Nigeria’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matchday two clash against Guinea-Bissau on Tuesday.

According to reports, regular captain Wilfred Ndidi will start the important encounter from the bench, with Iwobi expected to take over the captaincy for the match.

Iwobi is also expected to play a key role in a reorganised Nigerian midfield as the Super Eagles look to build on their hard-fought 2-1 victory over Madagascar in their opening qualifier last Friday.

The 30-year-old midfielder has become one of Nigeria’s most experienced active players. He made his 102nd appearance for the three-time African champions during the victory over Madagascar.

Iwobi is now part of Nigeria’s 100-cap club, joining former and current Super Eagles stars including Moses Simon, Vincent Enyeama, Joseph Yobo and Ahmed Musa.

Nigeria will face the Djurtus at the September 24 Stadium in Bissau as they aim to secure another important result in their qualification campaign.
