AFCON 2027Q: James Speaks On Emotional Super Eagles Invitation

Alverca defender Isaac James has spoken about his first-ever invitation to the Super Eagles ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier

James is among the 24 players invited by head coach Éric Chelle for the upcoming qualifying matches against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau.

The left-back admitted that he did not expect to receive a national team call-up so soon, despite making an impressive start to the new season.

“I was doing good at the start of the season but I didn’t expect to get a call up immediately. I know it is my dream to be in the national team,” James told the Super Eagles media.

The defender revealed that he was surprised and extremely happy when Chelle contacted him about the invitation.

“When the coach called me, I was so surprised. I didn’t expect it, I was happy.”

James also disclosed that the emotional moment led him to tears because of how long he had dreamed of representing Nigeria at senior international level.

“I must confess, I cried, I have been dreaming of playing for the national team. We have good players here, to be among them, I’m very happy,” James added.
