Ballon d’Or 2026: ‘He’s a leader’ – Jose Mourinho names player in race to win award
Real Madrid manager, Jose Mourinho, has backed midfielder Jude Bellingham as a serious contender for the 2026 Ballon d’Or.
Mourinho praised the England international for his leadership qualities and his outstanding performances from midfield. He made the comments after Bellingham scored in Real Madrid’s 4-0 victory over Malaga in La Liga on Sunday.
The Portuguese manager believes Bellingham’s influence goes beyond his goals and assists, highlighting the midfielder’s ability to lead and make a difference for both club and country.
“Bellingham is not only a top player but also a leader.
“He is in the Ballon d’Or race. What he does as a midfielder is absolutely incredible,” Mourinho said, as quoted by TNT Sports.
Bellingham has enjoyed an impressive year with Real Madrid and England. At the 2026 FIFA World Cup, he scored seven goals and provided one assist for the Three Lions.
