Ballon d’Or 2026: ‘Messi Already Has A Lot’ – Figo Names Player To Win Award
Former Portugal international Luis Figo has revealed his choice for the player he believes should win the 2026 Ballon d’Or.
Figo made his choice during a series of quickfire “this or that” questions at the EA FC 27 launch event.
The former Real Madrid star was asked to choose between different Ballon d’Or nominees, including Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal and Inter Miami forward Lionel Messi.
Figo ultimately selected Yamal over Messi, giving the young Barcelona star his backing for this year’s prestigious individual award.
The Portuguese legend pointed to Messi’s remarkable history with the award, having already won the Ballon d’Or multiple times during his career.
“Let’s give it to Lamine Yamal because Messi already has a lot,” Figo said while explaining his decision.
