Bayer Leverkusen manager Carles Martínez has praised Nigerian striker Victor Boniface following his brief appearance in the club’s 5-2 victory over 1. FC Nürnberg in the DFB Cup.

Boniface has struggled to secure regular playing time since the beginning of the season but was given an opportunity late in the encounter at the BayArena.

The Nigerian international came on for Jonas Hofmann in the closing stages of the match, spending just over three minutes on the pitch.

Despite his limited involvement, Boniface made a positive impression on Martínez, who expressed satisfaction with the striker’s contribution.

Speaking after the game, the Leverkusen manager acknowledged that he understood Boniface’s frustration over his limited opportunities and his desire to play a more important role in the team.

“I’m happy for him because I know he wanted to play and be important,” Martínez said via Liga Insider. “He was good in those few minutes.”
