BBNaija Was Not Created To Distract Nigerian Youths – Director Gbenga Kayode

Big Brother Naija director Gbenga Kayode has dismissed claims that the reality television show was created to distract Nigerians, particularly young people, from political and national issues.

Speaking during a recent episode of the CreativiTea podcast, Kayode said the show’s organizers have never approached the programme from a political perspective.

According to him, BBNaija is an entertainment platform designed to observe how different individuals interact under unique conditions, not a tool for political distraction.

He said:

“To be very honest, we never approach Big Brother Naija from the angle of politics or distraction. People definitely have assumptions that are not true.

“The idea is basically if you put people in this space under these conditions, what will happen? How the people would react, we don’t know. It has nothing to do with politics or distracting people.”

Kayode’s comments come in response to long-standing allegations that the reality show is often scheduled to divert public attention, especially during election periods.

He also rejected claims that BBNaija encourages illiteracy or represents an “Olodo uprising.”

According to him, the reality show has consistently produced educated winners, noting that all previous champions of the competition are university graduates.

Kayode maintained that BBNaija remains an entertainment programme focused on human interaction and not a platform created to influence political events or distract the public.
