Nollywood actress Bisola Aiyeola has opened up about her views on marriage and single parenting, saying she is not under pressure to get married and will only do so if the opportunity comes.

The 40-year-old actress shared her thoughts during an appearance on the In My Opinion podcast, where she questioned why women should remain in marriages if they are expected to handle most of the responsibilities without adequate support from their partners.

According to Bisola, some women provide for their families, raise their children and manage their homes while their husbands continue to expect them to meet their needs without contributing enough.

She explained that such situations could make women question the purpose of marriage when they are already carrying responsibilities that should be shared between two partners.

Speaking on her plans to get married, Bisola said marriage is important to society but is not the centre of her life.

“Women are like, you know what? What’s the point if I still have to do everything myself? Why do I have to be tied to this man all in the name of marriage?

“Marriage is an institution, is essential for the society. For me, if marriage does come, I will get married, but it is not the core of my existence. I mean, I’m doing pretty good,” she said.

The actress also discussed the difficulties of raising a child alone, stressing that the responsibility should not fall entirely on one person.

Bisola said she makes her daughter understand that single parenting is challenging and should not be something she aspires to experience.

She emphasised that raising a child requires shared responsibility and support, adding that one parent should not have to carry the entire burden alone.

“Being a single parent and looking after my daughter, I still let her know that being a single parent is not that easy. That’s not what you should aspire to be. Bearing the whole load of raising a child shouldn’t be for one person alone,” she said.

The actress, who turned 40 in January, also expressed satisfaction with her life and the stage she has reached.

“I turned 40 in January. Yeah. I love me so much, and this is the best times of my life,” she added.
