Burna Boy Becomes First African Artiste To Top Billboard Global 200 Chart
Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Burna Boy has made history by becoming the first African artiste to reach No. 1 on the Billboard Global 200 Songs chart.
The Grammy-winning singer achieved the milestone with “Dai Dai,” his collaborative World Cup song with Colombian singer Shakira. The track climbed to the top spot on this week’s Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global 200 Excluding U.S. charts.
The song also continued its strong performance in the United States, rising 12 places to a new peak of No. 55 on the Billboard Hot 100, marking another major achievement for the Nigerian star.
Meanwhile, fellow Nigerian singer Tems also recorded an impressive milestone. Her hit song “What You Need”climbed five spots to reach a new peak of No. 39 on the Billboard Hot 100 after spending 15 weeks on the chart.
The song recently reached No. 1 on the Billboard Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart and the Mediabase Urban Radio Airplay chart, making Tems the first solo African artiste to achieve both milestones.
The latest achievements by Burna Boy and Tems further highlight the growing global influence of Nigerian and African music, with both artistes continuing to break international records and expand Afrobeats’ presence on the world stage.
