Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Burna Boy has responded to the backlash surrounding his reported purchase of a custom one-of-one Venuum Widebody Bugatti Chiron said to be worth ₦9 billion.

The singer faced criticism after news of the luxury car surfaced, with some people accusing him of spending excessively on luxury instead of investing in meaningful projects or supporting charitable causes. Others argued that importing such an expensive vehicle into Nigeria made little sense because of the country’s poor road network.

While performing at the Afronation concert in Portugal on Friday night, Burna Boy addressed the criticism during a freestyle performance.

He rapped:

“I buy Bugatti, dem ask which road I go drive am? No be today we dey do road like Julius Berger.”

The comment was his way of dismissing concerns about where he would drive the luxury car, suggesting that poor roads have long been a reality in Nigeria.

The latest controversy comes months after Burna Boy was linked to socialite Sophia Egbueje, who alleged that the singer promised to buy her a Lamborghini in exchange for intimacy but failed to do so.

Although Burna Boy never directly addressed the allegation, he appeared to mock the situation in his song No Do, where he referenced someone complaining about a Lamborghini.

Sophia Egbueje later announced that she had purchased the Lamborghini herself, bringing the highly publicized dispute to an end.
