Corn Sellers Drive Luxurious Cars In UK – Portable Defends Remi Tinubu
Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, popularly known as Portable, has defended First Lady Remi Tinubu over her advice encouraging unemployed Nigerian women to start small-scale businesses.
Remi Tinubu recently faced criticism after advising unemployed women to consider businesses such as frying bean cakes, popularly known as akara, and selling roasted corn to earn a living.
Reacting to the controversy during a recent episode of The Honest Bunch Podcast, Portable said the First Lady’s comments were misunderstood.
According to him, there is nothing wrong with encouraging unemployed Nigerians to embrace small businesses. He argued that many successful people in Nigeria were raised by parents who made a living through petty trading.
Portable also claimed that small-scale businesses can be very profitable. He recalled seeing corn sellers driving luxury cars during a visit to London in the United Kingdom.
He stated, “Nigerians misunderstood what Remi Tinubu meant. If you look at many wealthy people in this country, their mothers trained them by selling pepper and roasted corn. When I went to London, I even saw someone selling corn while using a Benz.”
