Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Davido has emerged as the most nominated artiste at the 2026 African Muzik Magazine Awards (AFRIMMA) after organizers unveiled the full nominees list for this year’s edition.

The awards are returning after a two-year break, with organizers promising a bigger and improved event to celebrate African music.

Davido earned five nominations across some of the biggest categories, including Artist of the Year, Best Male West Africa, Crossing Boundaries With Music Award, and AFRIMMA Album of the Year for his album 5ive.

His collaboration with Omah Lay, With You, also received nominations for Best Collaboration and Song of the Year, giving the singer a total of five nominations.

Burna Boy, Ghanaian rapper Black Sherif, and Tanzanian star Diamond Platnumz followed closely with four nominations each.

South African sensation Tyla emerged as the most nominated female artiste with three nominations, while Nigerian singer Tems secured two nominations.

The nominations reflect the continued global growth of African music, with artistes from across the continent recognized for their achievements over the past year.

Tyla’s impressive rise on the international stage, driven by the success of her hit song Water, earned her recognition in several major categories.

Tems also maintained her strong international presence with more award nominations, while Burna Boy continued to strengthen his reputation through global tours, chart success, and international recognition.

Speaking on the awards’ return, AFRIMMA founder Anderson Obiagwu explained that the two-year break was taken to reposition the event.

According to him, the organizers are preparing a much bigger and more memorable edition.

He said:

“For the last two years, AFRIMMA took a break to make it even bigger and create something sensational. AFRIMMA is coming back bigger and better this year. It’s going to be epic, one of a kind.”

The 2026 nominees feature some of Africa’s biggest names across categories including Artist of the Year, Best Male and Female regional awards, Song of the Year, Best Collaboration, Album of the Year, Best Video Director, Best DJ, Best Actor/Actress, Best Comedian, Community Impact Award, and African Athlete of the Year.

The winners will be announced during the 2026 AFRIMMA awards ceremony later this year.
