Deyemi Okanlawon Reveals Why He Quit Acting in 2019
Nollywood actor Deyemi Okanlawon has revealed that he temporarily quit acting in 2019 because he was dissatisfied with the quality of work and the pay in the industry.
Speaking during a recent interview on the CreativiTea podcast, Deyemi said he reached a point where he no longer felt fulfilled by his acting career.
According to the actor, the poor remuneration and what he described as mediocre work made it difficult for him to remain motivated.
He said:
“So, I quit acting in 2019. I quit because the pay was nonsense, the work was nonsense. And I just felt like I didn’t leave 9–5 work to come and do mediocre work.
“It was difficult to wake up in the morning and go to work, and what is the point of being passionate about something and then not being fulfilled by it. So I quit and then went back to 9-5 work.”
Deyemi’s comments have reignited conversations about remuneration and working conditions in Nigeria’s film industry, with many actors previously raising similar concerns about pay and professional standards.
