DSS Arrests Suspected Gun Courier In Kano
Operatives of the Department of State Services, Department of State Services (DSS), have arrested a 30-year-old man identified as Muhammad Abubakar for allegedly transporting illegal firearms in Kano State.
The suspect, described as a transporter, was arrested while reportedly conveying weapons to Funtua in Katsina State.
According to the DSS, he was intercepted in Gezawa Local Government Area of Kano State following credible intelligence.
The agency said the suspect was allegedly on his way to deliver four RPG tubes, three AK-47 rifles, and two empty magazines to a destination in a known insecurity-prone area.
He was said to have collected the items from an individual identified as Bello in the Maigatari border area of Jigawa State.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed that he was promised ₦450,000 after successful delivery of the weapons.
The DSS said he admitted the weapons were likely intended for criminal activities, including armed robbery.
Fielding questions from journalists, the suspect said he had initially refused the offer but later agreed after persistent pressure from the alleged contact.
He also said he was unaware of the full identity of the recipient and only received a phone number for delivery.
The suspect stated, “I was arrested on the way while transporting the guns to Funtua.”
The DSS added that the suspect will be prosecuted, while efforts are ongoing to track down his accomplices and other members of the network
