EPL: Conte in talks over Man United job, lays down conditions
Former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has reportedly discussed the possibility of replacing Michael Carrick as Manchester United head coach, with the Italian said to have outlined specific conditions during talks with the club’s senior leadership.
Carrick’s position has come under increasing pressure following Manchester United’s 4-1 Champions League defeat away to Como on Wednesday. The result added to the club’s difficult start to the season.
United have managed just two victories in 11 matches across all competitions since the campaign began, raising concerns about their performances and increasing uncertainty surrounding Carrick’s future at Old Trafford.
Despite the growing pressure, Carrick is expected to remain in charge for Sunday’s Premier League home fixture against Bournemouth. However, another heavy defeat could put his position in further jeopardy.
According to Italian newspaper La Repubblica, Conte would be open to returning to the Premier League and taking charge of Manchester United. The report claims he has already communicated his expectations during discussions with senior figures at the club this week.
One of Conte’s reported demands is to have full control over Manchester United’s transfer activities. He wants the freedom to make decisions about recruitment without interference as he seeks to build a squad capable of competing at the highest level.
