EPL: Man City Facing Double Relegation
Manchester City could reportedly face relegation to the Championship for two consecutive seasons if the Premier League imposes severe sanctions over alleged breaches of financial regulations.
According to the Daily Mail, the Premier League is preparing to take strong action against the club over the charges linked to its financial dealings.
City, managed by Enzo Maresca, currently sit at the top of the Premier League table after winning their opening seven matches of the campaign.
However, their impressive start has been overshadowed by a reported guilty verdict relating to 100 charges involving alleged breaches of financial rules. The club has maintained its innocence and has already submitted an appeal.
Despite the appeal, the Premier League is reportedly considering imposing a severe punishment for alleged offences covering nearly a decade, from 2009 to 2018.
The proposed sanction could include a points deduction large enough to send City into the second tier of English football for the first time since 2001. A substantial fine is also reportedly expected.
