EPL: Man Utd Also Defeated Man City With Offside Goal – Maresca Hits Back

Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca has claimed that Manchester United also benefited from an offside goal when the two teams met in the Manchester Derby three years ago.

Maresca made the comments after Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) admitted that Erling Haaland’s winning goal against United last Sunday should not have stood.

Haaland’s goal was initially ruled out for offside by the on-field officials. However, VAR overturned the decision after deciding that United defender Patrick Dorgu had played Haaland onside.

However, Manchester City argued that Enzo Fernandez was in an offside position while attempting to play the ball before it reached Haaland. Pro Ref later contacted Manchester United and apologised for the decision.

Maresca said City had previously been on the receiving end of a similar controversial decision when Bruno Fernandes scored against them at Old Trafford.

“Three years ago we lost the Derby at Old Trafford with a goal that had to be disallowed. No one apologised. We are still waiting for the apology,” Maresca said.
