EPL: Mikael Silvestre Names Only Two Teams That Can Compete With Arsenal For Title

Former Arsenal defender, Mikael Silvestre, has identified Manchester City and Liverpool as the only two teams he believes can realistically challenge Arsenal for the Premier League title this season.

Arsenal will begin their title defence when the 2026/27 Premier League season gets underway this month.

The Gunners won the Premier League title last season under manager Mikel Arteta and will be looking to retain the trophy.

Silvestre believes Arteta has already proven that he can compete at the highest level and described him as the best manager in the Premier League based on his achievements last season.

Speaking to Grosvenor Sport, Silvestre said, “Mikel Arteta has already shown that he can compete with the very best. Right now, he is the best manager in the Premier League based on last season.

“The challenge now is to remain in that position as number one, and that is tough in the Premier League.

“There will be so much competition from Manchester City and Liverpool this season, although at the moment they are the only two teams that are ready to compete for the title, realistically.”

According to Silvestre, Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool are currently the strongest contenders for the Premier League title, with the latter two expected to provide the biggest challenge to Arteta’s side.
