EPL: Paul Robinson slams Man United star over Chuba Akpom’s goal for Ipswich Town

Former Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson has criticised Manchester United defender Lisandro Martínez following Chuba Akpom’s goal for Ipswich Town in their Premier League clash at Old Trafford.

Manchester United came from behind to secure a convincing 5-2 victory over Ipswich Town.

Ipswich took the lead in the 29th minute through Leif Davis, but Bruno Fernandes equalised for United 11 minutes later to make it 1-1 at half-time.

Manchester United completed their comeback after the break, taking the lead through an own goal by Jacob Greaves before Fernandes converted a penalty in the 61st minute.

Fernandes later completed his hat-trick, while Bryan Mbeumo added United’s fifth goal in the 82nd minute.

However, Ipswich managed to score a late consolation through Nigerian striker Chuba Akpom in the first minute of stoppage time.

Akpom, who came on at the beginning of the second half, found the net after Julio Enciso dispossessed Martínez and created the opportunity for the Nigerian forward to score.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live from Old Trafford, Robinson blamed Martínez for being overconfident and criticised Manchester United for losing concentration.

He said:

“Manchester United switched off there. Lisandro Martinez was over confident and he was robbed by Julio Enciso, who has been Ipswich’s best player today. Chuba Akpom gets a tap in.”

The goal was a memorable moment for Akpom, as it was his first-ever Premier League goal.
