Former England midfielder Steven Gerrard has changed his prediction for the Premier League title, backing Manchester City to win the championship after their emphatic 3-0 victory over Liverpool on Sunday.

Before the season began, Gerrard had tipped Arsenal to retain the title, believing Mikel Arteta’s side would continue their strong performances from the previous campaign.

However, Arsenal currently sit three points behind Manchester City, who strengthened their position at the top of the table with their convincing win at Anfield.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Gerrard said Manchester City appeared to have moved forward and looked ready to reclaim the Premier League crown under Pep Guardiola.

“Before a ball was kicked, I fancied Arsenal to just carry on, but now, what are we, six, seven games in…” Gerrard said.

The former Liverpool captain admitted that City’s performance against his old club had changed his view of the title race, particularly after watching their strength and depth.

“I’d put my money on Manchester City, having seen what I’ve seen yesterday. I’d put my money on City,” he stated.
