EPL: They’re Not Dynamic Enough – Gary Neville Criticises Man Utd Duo
Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville has criticised the midfield partnership of Youri Tielemans and Kobbie Mainoo, arguing that the duo lack the dynamism required to play for the club in the Premier League.
Neville made the comments after Manchester United were held to a 1-1 draw by Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League at the weekend.
Speaking on The Gary Neville Podcast, the former defender said he had seen enough of the partnership to question whether the two midfielders complement each other effectively.
“Tielemans and Mainoo, I think we have seen enough of it now,” Neville said.
He clarified that he was not completely giving up on the partnership but remained concerned about its suitability for Manchester United. “I am not calling time on it because that is probably too drastic, but I have seen enough to think that is not a midfield that is dynamic enough to play at this football club in the Premier League,” he added.
Neville further suggested that the pair do not work well together, pointing to the improvement he noticed when Carlos Baleba came on to play alongside Mainoo. “I think they don’t quite knit together or don’t quite suit each other. I think when [Carlos] Baleba came on with Mainoo, it looked like there was a lot more energy,” he said.
