UK lawmaker Jeremy Corbyn has called for Manchester City to be relegated from the Premier League following reports that the club was found guilty of most of the financial charges brought against them.

City were reported to have been found guilty of 114 of the 115 charges after a four-year investigation and a 12-week hearing before an independent commission.

No official punishment has been announced yet, but possible sanctions include heavy fines, points deductions, expulsion from the Premier League and relegation.

Corbyn, a lifelong Arsenal supporter, argued that the alleged breaches concern the integrity of the competition and should result in a sporting punishment rather than only a financial penalty.

His comments come amid growing discussion about what sanctions Manchester City could face if the verdict stands.

The call is similar to comments made by former Manchester City chairman David Bernstein, who told talkSPORT that financial penalties alone would not be enough for a club with “limitless financial resources.”
