EPL: Why I signed Enzo Fernandez from Chelsea – Man City boss, Maresca

Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca has explained why the club decided to sign Enzo Fernandez from Chelsea for a reported £125 million.

The move has reunited Maresca and Fernandez at the Etihad Stadium after the two previously worked together at Chelsea.

Maresca believes the huge transfer fee was justified and described Fernandez as a player with a strong winning mentality who can bring valuable experience to Manchester City.

Maresca said: “Enzo Fernández… we’ve signed a winner.

“Enzo has a winning mentality, he knows how to win – World Cup, Club World Cup. And the main thing is that he’s a winner.

The City manager also revealed that several players within the squad were eager to see Fernandez join the club during the final days of the transfer window.

“I can promise you in the last four or five days, four or five players were asking if he’s coming or not, because they wanted him with us!”

Maresca will now hope Fernandez can quickly settle back into his system and help City compete for major honours after his £125 million move from Chelsea.
