Four Arrested Over Alleged Theft Of Roofing Sheets In Jigawa
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Jigawa State has arrested four people for allegedly stealing aluminium roofing sheets from the School of Nursing in Hadejia.
The suspects were arrested on Tuesday by operatives of the Gandun Sarki Division during a surveillance patrol aimed at protecting public infrastructure and other critical national assets.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASC Badruddeen Tijjani, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Wednesday in Dutse.
According to him, the suspects were caught behind the school’s perimeter fence during the operation.
He said the four suspects were found with 13 square metres of aluminium roofing sheets believed to have been removed from the school, where renovation work is currently ongoing.
The suspects were identified as 31-year-old Adamu Mohammed, a security guard at the school and resident of Ramin Zaki Quarters in Hadejia; 35-year-old Dan Inu Mohammed, a carpenter from Gandun Sarki in Malam Madori Local Government Area; 30-year-old Isma’ila Adamu, a tricycle operator from the same community; and 25-year-old Bashari Yahaya, an apprentice from Gandun Sarki.
According to the NSCDC, preliminary investigations revealed that one of the suspects was a member of the school’s security team, raising concerns about the institution’s internal security.
The command said it has informed the management of the School of Nursing, Hadejia, about the security lapses and advised the institution to strengthen its security measures to prevent similar incidents.
The Jigawa State Commandant of the NSCDC, CC Muhammad Ingawa, reaffirmed the corps’ commitment to protecting public property and fighting vandalism across the state.
He warned those involved in theft, vandalism and other forms of economic sabotage to stop such activities, stressing that the command will continue to intensify surveillance, intelligence gathering and enforcement operations to ensure offenders are arrested and prosecuted.
