How thugs attacked journalists covering APC rally in Kano

Journalists covering an All Progressives Congress (APC) rally in Kano State were attacked on Saturday by suspected thugs.  
‎
‎They were attacked behind the City Campus of North West University, Kofar Nassarawa, while on their way back to their office after the programme.
‎
‎The attackers reportedly smashed a Radio Nigeria official vehicle conveying the journalists and damaged its rear glass.

‎Daily Trust reported that the party had earlier launched the Tinubu Support Group rally at Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano, as well as received some chieftains into the party.

‎Confirming the incident, one of the journalists working with Pyramid Radio in Kano, Yakubu Abubakar Gwagwarwa, said the vehicle was carrying five journalists and three policemen when they were attacked.
‎
‎He said the thugs were armed with machetes and knives, repeatedly smashed the windows, and damaged parts of the bus.
‎
‎Gwagwarwa said, “In the vehicle were four staff of Radio Nigeria Pyramid FM, a journalist with Guarantee Radio and three policemen we gave a lift from the stadium.
‎
‎“But even the presence of security personnel inside the vehicle did not prevent the attackers from carrying out the assault.
‎
‎“They continued to hit the vehicle despite the presence of security personnel and journalists inside. We had to quickly turn back, but they still followed us,” he added.
‎
‎The journalist said as a result, their driver was wounded and some of them were hit by broken glass from the smashed vehicle.
‎
‎He, however, said the attack may not have been targeted at them, describing it as more of a random one, adding that others too could have been attacked.
‎
‎This is not the first time political thugs would attack people in the state during political activities.

A few months back, at least three people were reportedly killed by suspected political thugs on the day of the inauguration of a new Deputy Governor in the state.
‎
‎As of the time of filing this report, police have not yet reacted to the attack.
