“I’m Nobody Without It” — Rudeboy Distances Self From Peter Okoye’s Nigerian Language Controversy

Nigerian singer Paul Okoye, popularly known as Rudeboy, has distanced himself from the controversy surrounding his twin brother, Peter Okoye, over comments about Nigerian languages.

The issue started after Peter Okoye, also known as Mr P, responded to a fan who asked if his children could speak Igbo, his native language.

The fan asked the question after Peter shared a post about his children speaking French fluently while on vacation in Paris.

Replying to the fan, Peter wrote, “And who Naija language help? Make I hear word abeg.”

The comment sparked criticism online, with many Nigerians accusing him of disrespecting indigenous languages despite using Igbo and other Nigerian languages in his music throughout his career.

Reacting to the backlash, Rudeboy made it clear that he does not share the same view as his twin brother.

The singer stated that Nigerian culture and language are important parts of his identity and success.

Writing on X, Rudeboy said:

“100% proudly Igbo. 100% proudly Nigerian. I’m a ‘nobody’, I repeat!! A nobody!!, without the culture, native language. 100% proudly Nigerian. 100% proudly Igbo.”

Rudeboy’s statement has since attracted reactions from fans, with many praising him for defending the importance of Nigerian languages and culture.
