Joshua’s Power vs Fury’s Skill: Saunders Weighs In

Former two-weight world champion Billy Joe Saunders has offered a sharp assessment of the long-awaited clash between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury, highlighting Joshua’s raw strength and punching precision as potential game-changers.

Saunders, who has long been close to Fury, admitted that the “Gypsy King” remains the more technically gifted boxer. Yet he stressed that Joshua’s physical power and accuracy could tilt the balance if he executes his plan effectively.

“Joshua is stronger and a cleaner puncher. Tyson is slicker and a better boxer. Whoever delivers the smarter game plan will win,” Saunders told The Stomping Ground.

The all-British showdown remains without a confirmed date or venue. Promoter Frank Warren has said negotiations between both camps must be concluded before details are finalised.

Warm-Up Bouts Ahead

Joshua, 36, is scheduled to face Albanian heavyweight Kristian Prenga in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on July 25. The bout will be his first since stopping Jake Paul in the sixth round last December. It also marks his return to the ring after mourning the tragic loss of two close friends in a car crash in Nigeria.

Fury, 37, returned in April after a 16-month layoff, edging Arslanbek Makhmudov on points in a performance widely seen as below his best. He is targeting another fight in August before stepping in against Joshua.

Usyk Factor in Joshua’s Corner

Saunders also pointed to Joshua’s training relationship with Oleksandr Usyk as a possible advantage. Usyk, who has already beaten Fury, provides a proven blueprint that Joshua’s camp is likely to study closely.

The anticipated bout is being billed as a collision of contrasting styles: Joshua’s power and precision against Fury’s agility and ring craft. Saunders believes the fight is too close to call, but insists the winner will be the man who adapts best under pressure.

For Nigerian fans, the contest represents more than just a heavyweight battle. Joshua’s ties to Nigeria ensure the fight will be followed with intense national pride, as the country rallies behind one of its most celebrated sporting sons.
