A Magistrate Court in Kano has remanded a nursing mother, Jummai Ahmad, in a correctional facility over allegations of conspiring to kill her newborn baby.

The order was issued by Chief Magistrate Haulatu Magaji Kankarofi after the defendant was arraigned by the police on charges of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide.

According to the prosecution, the case was reported to the police by the Village Head of Gama E area, where the defendant resides. Prosecutors alleged that Jummai conspired with her mother to kill the baby she had recently given birth to out of wedlock.

The prosecution further informed the court that Jummai’s mother is currently on the run after allegedly fleeing before she could be arrested.

The court ordered that Jummai remain in custody pending further proceedings, while security agencies continue efforts to apprehend the second suspect.
