The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State has unveiled Reverend Cornelius Fawenu as the deputy governorship candidate for the 2027 election.

The announcement was made in Ilorin by the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Olusegun Adewara, who said Fawenu’s selection followed consultations across the three senatorial districts.

Bolakale Kawu, the party’s governorship candidate, formally communicated his choice in a letter to the state chairman. He described Fawenu as a leader with integrity and compassion, stressing that his inclusion on the ticket reflected the PDP’s commitment to competence and inclusiveness.

Adewara explained that the process was thorough, involving deliberations with party leaders and stakeholders from Kwara North, Kwara Central, and Kwara South.

Fawenu, 53, hails from Babaloma in Ifelodun Local Government Area. He currently serves as the Kwara South Senatorial Chairman of the PDP.

He is a graduate of Biochemistry from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and the Presiding Pastor of Oasis of Wisdom Bible Church, Ilorin. He previously served as Secretary of the Christian Association of Nigeria.

With over two decades in ministry, Fawenu has promoted interfaith dialogue, peaceful coexistence between Muslims and Christians, and community development. His record, according to the PDP, demonstrates loyalty to the party and commitment to religious harmony.

The PDP said the Kawu-Fawenu ticket combines experience, grassroots engagement, and religious balancing. It added that the pairing was designed to broaden the party’s appeal across Kwara’s diverse communities.

“The emergence of Reverend Fawenu followed extensive consultations and a rigorous selection process. The Kawu-Fawenu ticket embodies competence, integrity, and inclusive leadership required to rescue Kwara State from hardship and insecurity,” the statement read.

The party emphasized that the Muslim-Christian ticket was deliberate, aimed at strengthening unity and ensuring balanced representation. It said the combination of Kawu’s political experience and Fawenu’s religious leadership would help restore purposeful governance.

Adewara noted that four prominent personalities were considered for the deputy governorship slot before Fawenu emerged as the preferred choice. His leadership credentials and contributions to peace and development were decisive factors.

The PDP urged members, supporters, and residents of Kwara to rally behind the ticket. It expressed confidence that the team could deliver sustainable development, economic prosperity, and accountable governance if elected.

“The Peoples Democratic Party calls on all well-meaning Kwarans to support this formidable ticket as the movement to reclaim and reposition Kwara State gathers momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections,” Adewara said.

With the unveiling of Reverend Fawenu, the PDP has signaled its readiness for the governorship race. The party believes the ticket reflects inclusiveness and competence, positioning it to challenge the ruling party in 2027.

The announcement marks a significant step in the PDP’s preparations, as it seeks to consolidate support across religious and regional divides in Kwara State.
