Messi mum as Ronaldo announces retirement from Portugal national team
Inter Miami captain Lionel Messi has remained silent following the announcement by his long-time football rival, Cristiano Ronaldo, that he is retiring from international football.
Ronaldo confirmed his decision in a social media post on Thursday, announcing that he would no longer represent Portugal at international level.
The 41-year-old also made it clear that he was handing over the iconic No. 7 shirt and the national team’s captain’s armband.
Several personalities from across the football world have paid tribute to the former Portugal captain, celebrating his achievements and contributions to the national team.
However, Messi has yet to make any public statement or send a message wishing Ronaldo well following his announcement.
The silence is notable because Ronaldo had publicly acknowledged Messi when the Argentine announced his own retirement ahead of the October international break.
