Niger Police Arrest 20-Year-Old Over Alleged Midnight Attack, Attempted Kidnap Of Two Women

The Niger State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old man, Tukur Bello, over an alleged midnight invasion of a residence in Takuma Fulani Camp, Mokwa Local Government Area.

Bello is accused of attempting to kidnap two women during the incident.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, the suspect allegedly entered the residence at about midnight on July 25, 2026, while the two women were asleep.

The police said Bello was armed with a sharp cutlass and allegedly threatened to abduct both women.

The women reportedly raised an alarm after the suspect entered the residence.

According to the command, the suspect then allegedly attacked one of the women in an attempt to silence her.

The victim reportedly sustained deep cuts on her hands during the attack.

Her cries attracted members of the community and local vigilantes, who intervened and apprehended the suspect.

The police said Bello, who is from Takuma Fulani Camp, was arrested with the cutlass allegedly used during the incident.

The case was initially reported at the Mokwa Divisional Police Headquarters before it was transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, in Minna, on July 30 for further investigation.

The suspect remains in police custody and is currently undergoing interrogation.

The command said he would be charged to court after the completion of the investigation.

The police spokesman urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements, threats or other security concerns to the relevant security agencies promptly.
